This is apparently a special case of a more general 'format' failure, where the
line preceeding a paragraph gets munched.  It *seems* to be connected to whether
or not you actually entered the newline - if you hit enter and created it,
it works OK, while a newline that was left there all by itself via other
means causes the error.  For example, I did a 'select' and 'delete' on the
text following "after a while", leaving the newline after the period.  When
I hit 'format', the newline got munched.  Going back and inserting the
newline and selecting 'format' again, it didn't get munched.

In your case, the newline after the dashes was provided by the comps file,
not your input - thus the glitch.

My guess is that there's an off-by-one error setting a 'tag' on some text,
but I've never understood tk/tcl tags well enough to hunt this one down....
