faces-related segmentation fault on Mac OSX

Hi,

I am a long-time exmh user and have becom quite attached to this beautiful
program. So far I use it on Linux (Debian) without any problems. Currently
I am trying to migrate to Mac OSX.

Installation was not a problem at all, and everything seems to be working
fine. The only caveat is that when I activate picons/faces (by indicating
the proper directory where faces can be found), I cannot get exmh to start
any more, as it immediately segfaults after popping up its window.

Any suggestions or workarounds?
How could I debug this (other than the segfault, I have not found any trace
of what could be its origin)? I wonder whether it comes from within exmh or
from trying to execute some helper program.

Any help, hints, suggestions are very welcome,

NB: I am using the latest 2.7.2 version of exmh with fink's version of tcl/tk
    which is 8.4.13-3
