Running exmh with Tk/Aqua.. unreadable buttons

Hi again,

in my quest to make exmh run on MacOSX I am currently trying the Aqua 
port of Tcl/Tk (which doesn't have the faces segfault problem).
However one of the most annoying 'features' is that I can't read most 
of the buttons, as they are rounded and eat much of the text.
Is there any exmh resource that allows me to add some 'space' to the 
button text so that I can read them again? (changing the font doesn't 
help as the buttons resize accordingly) Or maybe another approach?
