Yes, it would be possible, but if both got installed the "default" would
end up being whichever one rpm happened to schedule for installation
first.

What does ldd /usr/lib/ezmlm/sub-mysql.so say?

Probably sub-mysql.so was linked against a different version of
libmysqlclient or something.  Either that or a dynamic loader bug.
