If your MDA (delivery program) fails, getmail doesn't tell the server to delete the message, so it can try again next time. No. There's no way to just delete messages with getmail. I usually recommend people use their provider's webmail interface, or an IMAP MUA, to go in and delete particular messages. If you don't want to do that, just retrieve them as normal and delete the duplicates (if the previous retrieval failed but not until after it had actually been delivered...) by hand.
