I use To to filter mailing lists. I have a page on mutt that goes through basic mailfilter syntax if it helps. I wouldn't use from for a mailing list because in many cases, it just shows the address of the person sending the question or comment to the mailing list. For what it's worth, here's my mutt page. The first part of that section is dated, from the time when there was no CentOS rpm for maildrop, and is about building it on CentOS systems (though for CentOS users, Nux will no longer be maintaining his repo for CentOS-8 but it's probably available in the rpmfusion or powertools available for CentOS-8. Anyway, the latter part of the section goes through simple syntax for a $HOME/.mailfilter file. Make sure, by the way, that you give it 700 permissions (600 probably works as well), it cannot be available to group or other.
