That does not make a fundamental difference. Either way you are tacitly
"supporting" XOAUTH2 (while being forced to use it).

If getmail supports it, at least you have the pleasure of subverting
that protocol.  The battle is largely lost (Airbus switched to G-Suite,
apparently industrial espionage is not an issue ...).
