getmail out of my distro (Debian stable) means me not using getmail.
The «$software isn’t difficult to build» becomes an herculean task for
$num_app approaching $a_working_desktop; titanic if you take into
consideration time-sensitive security upgrades.
There is a reason why we use Linux/BSD/etc. distributions and don’t
compile from the ground up.

Whether the effort is worth it is a question for getmail’s maintainers.
