If I want something, I build it.  I don't trust most of the so-called 
maintainers, particularly after the Debian/OpenSSL fiasco, and Ubuntu (I 
think) just broke NetSNMP.

On my primary home server I regularly build OpenSSL, OpenSSH, Postfix, 
Getmail (obviously :-) ), and a few other things, just to be sure I'm 
not suffering from a Debian/OpenSSL fsck-up, and not waiting on someone 
else.

Of course, in relation to my work we build a lot of things to make sure 
they're safe, so I don't see it as a cost.  (I never have, but then I 
started administering systems and programming them close to forty years 
ago, nothing out there these days is as secure as VAX/VMS was back then 
;-) )

And Charles has already said he's not interested in 'porting Getmail to 
Python 3, if it's a problem for you, pay someone to do it.
