That's nice, in a theoretical sense. In practice it does not. Human nature being what it is, users do not follow documentation, do not follow program output, do not follow instructions in general. When they hit a problem, they web-search the name of the program -- in this case, getmail, as users ignore version numbers -- and either take the solution from the first StackExchange result cargo-cult style, or contact the first support resource they find.
