Is there any 'xoauth2' login wrapper support for v5 of current getmail for ms o365 in the works?

Dear getmail users.

We have been very happily using v5 getmail for a very long time, but with the end of life of python 2.x and our linux distros removing it and it being replaced with getmail6, is not good, we somehow accidentally managed to ‘upgrade’ to version 6 of getmail6 and found out way too late that this is very bad and unreliable ‘upgrade'.

So we are looking at our options of returning back to the regular and stable getmail v5. ;-)

But for that we would need to find a xoauth2 ‘plugin’ that supports ms o365 with modern authentication as well as running on an old and end of life version of python.

What are the community insights and advise on these questions? We can’t be the only ones?

How far is the rewrite of getmail to use python v3 and higher?

Are there any experiences with running almalinux 8 with the old v2.x python active?

Has anybody worked out a way to expand the xoauth2 functionality from Stefan Krah to work with ms o365 and not just gmail?

Thanks for any and all pointers or thought on this topic.

Regards,
