Agreed that minimizing damages is priority 1.

Having said that: courier's been around for a very long time. If it was  
going to be picked up by distros that ship would've sailed some time ago, I  
think. To my knowledge only Debian packaged it faithfully for some time, but  
the packages tended to be very old, due to Debian's nature. And at some  
point they were not maintained at all. I don't know what the current status  
in Debian is. I do have a recollection that some minor distros packaged it  
some time ago. But those distros are not around any more.
