The specs are layered.

In a UNIX mbox format file you'll find both "From " and "From: " in each=20
message.

RFC822 and its successors specify "From: ".

UNIX mbox format (which encapsulates one or more messages in a single=20
file) starts each message with a line starting with "From " (with no :=20
character), with sender and timestamp after the "From ".

On delivery to a mbox-format mailbox, some mailers will rewrite lines in=20
the message starting with "From " to ">From " in order to prevent that=20
line from being spuriously detected as the start of the next message.

If you're delivering messages fetched in mbox format into Cyrus, it's=20
best to strip off a first line starting with "From " or
">From "; there's most likely a proper RFC822 "From: " header later on=20
in the message headers.
