Hi Keith Thanks for your advice and patience on this one. I've done some checking and found that authdaemond wasn't starting properly so all the authentication was being done by authpam. However now that authdaemond (and therefore authdaemon.ldap) is running, the connection to the email client is closed as soon as the password is checked. I've verified this by using telnet on the server where the connection is closed immediately that the password is entered. This must be down to the authldaprc settings. The one that I'm really doubtful about is LDAP_MAIL. Does this refer to a field in the schema or is it, as the HOWTO by J. Vriesman suggests, a UID. If it is a UID, which UID is it? Is it vmail (113)? I've checked the settings for /home/vmail/domains - these are 'owned' by vmail.vmail and this is a system account with UID and GID both 113 and this matches my LDAP_GLOB_UID and LDAP_GLOB_GID fields. Incoming mail is put into a user folder in the rvw.sytes.net folder within /home/vmail/domains. It's a case of so near but so far! Hmm... Courier won't let one log in if it can't cd/chroot to the directory with the mail. I would check that 1) postfix is putting the mail where courier is looking. (chroot for postfix could be a monkey wrench here) 2) permissions/ownership are good for /home/vmail Keith -- Keith T.
