I've got sasl that goes against saslauthd. saslauthd is set up to go against pam. Pam, in turn, goes against ldap (with config info taken from /etc/ldap.conf which points it at the jamm schema), and if that fails, then the local password file. I've got it all set up, just haven't had the time to document it. Since I'm setting up a new server this week, maybe I'll document it again. Works perfectly for both virtual users and local users. I'm in the middle of emergancy house repairs. (Hooray for sump pump dying during heavy rain. Luckily, nothing is broken but that.) If you still have more questions, I can try to help in a day or two.
