disconnected Imap?

Hello,

recently I discovered lipetpan and after poking around in its
documentation I have a question:

Can libetpan be used to implement disconnected IMAP?
I am asking because I am involved with the Kolab Groupware (www.kolab.org)
which is based on email and client use disconnected imap to sync
the offline work back up to an imap server.
To implement further Kolab clients it would be interesting to have
an imap library that is not directly build into KDE for instance
and can handle disconnected IMAP. 
Is libetpan suitable for this kind of goal?
