Yes, it can be used for that purpose since libetpan implements IMAP.
But a disconnected IMAP is not implemented. (A behavior has to be 
chosen for that).

synchronization of flags will have to be done by hand in your 
implementation (using basic IMAP interface).

As I said, disconnected IMAP could be obviously interesting but is not 
yet implemented. I could be interested in a contribution for that, 
you'll need to understand libetpan internals to implement that.
