I don't know if this helps, but for a small list (approx 80 members),  
restricting posting to only members of the list has worked for us  
(actually, we restrict posting to anyone in the Mj2 registry, for  
local reasons).  We get a lot of spam to several of our lists, but in  
the last 4 years, I think only one spam message made it through, and  
that was because I clicked the wrong button and accepted a CONSULT  
rather than rejecting it.
