The Mail.app on Mavericks is a huge step backwards. The Mail.app on Snow
Leopard could do much of what I need, but not quite all. It was so
disappointing to see the direction they are going in.
I'd rather use pencil and paper and stamps and envelopes than Outlook. I've
given up waiting for the fabled "next generation Eudora" whose name I can never
quite remember. Thunderbird is too primitive. Nothing else looks real. I'm
really tempted to write shell scripts that use the IMAPtools library, which is
excellent.
Mulberry's use of IMAP is pitch-perfect, and I use it for a lot of server
maintenance tasks that no other mailer could come close to doing. That's why
I've been investigating IMAPtools. They will at least let me do IMAP server
maintenance tasks if Mulberry dies without an heir.
DITTO. DITTO. I couldn't have expressed it better. Add to that, my Mac's address
book has been completely empty these last 14 (?) years I have been using Mulberry.
Which may sound small or irrelevant, but when the OS adds over the years iTunes,
iPhones, Snycing, Microsoft Skype one appreciates not using OS supplied or tied mail
apps or (their) address book.
Mulberry felt from the very beginning to be built for the user, not for what the
maker could 'get back.' Surreptitiously, or other wise. I don't remember what I
was testing it against back then - Opera or Eudora? - one of them had 'free with
ads' or pay to get rid of the ads. Well, who would pay for something that already
had pathways coded into it, when you could pay Cyrus?
The subsequent mail apps I've looked at over the years seemed to be talking to
someone who had *one* god-awful gmail account [not to be disparaging to any gmail
users on this list - sorry to say, I have a lot of friends on gmail]. On the other
hand handling multiple accounts in Mulberry's Prefs has always been clear and
intuitive.
