Exactly what it says. Neomail doesn't have permission to read or write the mail spool file /var/mail/foo Check which user/group neomail was installed under. Check which user/group is allowed to read/write /var/mail/foo Does at least one of them match (probably the group)? If so, are permissions set to allow read/write access? Permissions are a basic part of *ix, you need to understand them at least partially before you messing about with them as root. These will hopefully help understand them a bit more: man chmod man chown Tod.
