Displaying non-ASCII character set

One of our users just started using a Blackberry and apparently, it does
not use US-ACSII.
It will display fine while reading the message in Neomail 1.25.  When
you reply, the message gets garbled.

Again, it is completely readable from the inbox.  Only when replying or
forwarding does it turn out like this.
According to Pine, it is using the "iso-8859-1" character set.
Has anyone seen this before?
