I know *nothing* about IMAP but I had a problem with pine a while back 
and it had to do with the fact that pine was moving messages from the 
spool files to a mail-file.  I re-configured pine to read directly from 
the spool file and everything was fine.

*My* problem was that whenever I would use pine I would loose my email 
from neomail and pop3.  I could still view it in pine.

It seems to me that you might have a similar problem where neomail and 
pine are looking at a specific file while IMAP is trying to pull from 
the spool files?  (again I don't know how IMAP works)
