NullMailer -- Email Sending Delays

I have a monitor application that sends an event to multiple channels, i.e.
webhook, slack and email.

For some reason, the email always is delayed. Upon checking, I found that
/var/spool/nullmailer/queue is full. And I observed this for a couple of
days, event replaced our SMTP with AWS SMTP hoping it would solve the
problem. But still getting the high queue in nullmailer.

Are there in throttle settings or interval sending time configuration that
I missed that is causing this? Also, the amount of email is not crazy, i.e.
40 emails in 1 hour but in short burst (over 5 minutes).
