One thing I haven't figured out from my two settings files is that the new one (the fast one) seems to think my window is about 40 cols wide.. Here's some of how I see my previous message when viewing it.. (When I reply, it appears properly). newmail-window-width is no-value-set (using 80) and composer-wrap-column is 79 By the way, here's some timings!
