Re: creative use of pipes

Thanks to Pierre Frenkiel, Thorsten Glaser and David Morris who suggested 
the use of external scripts or alternate editor. In fact I mentioned 
possible usage of alternate editor myself (my preferred is "the"), but the 
alternate editor is invoked by the composer.

Let me rephrase what I mean :

a) I have a message in my inbox (or any other folder) structured like
   this :

   From : some lazy guy
   To:    myself
   Cc:    somebody else
   Date:  xxxx
   Message-Id : zzz@tttt
   Subject : Re: my mail
   Other-stuff : do not care

   some text written by some lazy in reply to me

   > my entire original message quoted

b) what I want to end with is to find saved in another folder the
   message edited like this

   From : some lazy guy
   To:    myself
   Cc:    somebody else
   Date:  xxxx
   Subject : Re: my mail
   Message-Id : zzz@tttt

   some text written by some lazy in reply to me

   Some sort of filter at delivery time or at saving time would be
   ideal (no action or "one click"). Probably at saving time is better,
   because I'd trigger that ONLY if the lazy guy quoted my entire
   message uselessly at the end, not if he quoted part of it interspersed
   with replies (I won't trust a procmail rule to distinguish between
   the two, specially one written by me)

c) what I get now is instead

   From : some lazy guy
   Subject : Re: my mail (fwd)
   Date:  the date when I did the forwarding and editing

   Cc:    somebody else           part of original header
   Date:  xxxx                    reported for reference 
   Message-Id : zzz@tttt          but in the mail body

   some text written by some lazy in reply to me

   As I said I achieve this by forwarding to Fcc: in a folder of my
   choice the original message and editing it in the composer (or in
   an alternate editor, but both work on the body of the forwarded
   message only, and I have to move the original "From" from body to
   header within pine using cut and paste

   essentially I'd like a save-with-edit or save-with-pipe done as
   automatically as possible

The closest thing is possibly the suggestion by Pierre Frenkiel to use
a script which cat's its output to a folder. I could trigger that from 
pine using the pipe command and passing the folder as argument. But I 
suppose I'd need to pipe the raw message (to preserve headers) and I'm not 
sure if there are any particular requirement to make a folder valid for 
pine (what if folder does not exist, and the famous hidden first message 
which pine puts in an empty folder ?)
