It also depends on the character set of the eMail (in pine).
For example, I could read your Ü just fine, because this is
on a box with a latin1 terminal, but if I'm on my main lap-
top which has configured the terminal and pine for utf-8, I
only would get garbage.
Alpine is supposed to solve this by translating between the
different character sets. There is an UTF-8 patch for pine,
however I have strong reasons for not using it, outlined in
an eMail to the miros-discuss list (google it if you want to
know more).
