It depends on the terminal emulator too. For example, the gnome terminal 
can be set to utf-8, and in that case, your Ü will not be displayed 
correctly, but when I set the terminal to Western iso-8859-1, it gets 
displayed correctly. Take a look into that type of configuration too.
