Yes, and you can get into the file browser in several occasions with ^T,
also after ^R to append (not attach) a text file to the current message.
I do use it for instance to select alternate signatures.

One handy feature, possibly not widely known, of the file browser is the 
possibility to enter "list mode" with the L command. Then one can tick 
many items (e.g. files) at once. This is useful to attach several files in 
one go.

List mode is also available when accessing the addressbook from composer 
header area, or when using the Take command to take an address into the 
addressbook.
