Yes, and you can get into the file browser in several occasions with ^T, also after ^R to append (not attach) a text file to the current message. I do use it for instance to select alternate signatures. One handy feature, possibly not widely known, of the file browser is the possibility to enter "list mode" with the L command. Then one can tick many items (e.g. files) at once. This is useful to attach several files in one go.
