Right, my answer was incomplete. By default Pine uses the SMTP protocol to 
talk to sendmail even when contacting the local sendmail and even if you 
don't configure an explicit Smtp-Server. It does this by 
calling sendmail with the -bs flag. If you set sendmail-path and cause 
Pine to use command line arguments instead of SMTP to send then it can't 
do DSN.
