it looks like your earlier version of pine was built with PASSFILE, a 
compile-time flag that allows saving passwords to a file. your new version 
of pine either uses a different file, or wasn't built with PASSFILE at all.

try running pine -h. if it includes the -passfile option, pass it 
the path to your .pine_passwd file. more here:

if not, try to find a pine 4.64 package from the same place you got your 
original version. it will probably also be built with PASSFILE. otherwise, you 
can build pine from source with PASSFILE yourself.
