If you are willing to use Cygwin, then the above is quite possible:

If you can get IMAP and/or POP access at work, then you can use
fetchmail too:

Note that fetchmail supports NTLM authentication too.
BTW, the above (plus mutt, aspell, python-ldap, w3m, etc.) is how I
process all of my email at work. As an extra bonus, I get to smile when
I hear my coworkers grumble about how slow Exchange is... :,)
