Hm. Never heard of *.deb packages ? And the following formats:

Actually, qmail *was* packaged as rpm (together with my Spamcontrol)* ) but the maintainer 
left or does not follow up it anymore.

It is the shortage of maintainers, in the first place.

Actually, I've seen cases, where the maintainer messed up the sources while providing some 
'combined' patches.
