Dear All,

My name is KC, nice to meet you at the serialmail mailing list.
I want qmail to send mails on a dial-up connection. (only send mail, not
need to receive in my case.) I have tried to setup serialmail with the
qmail. outgoing mails is queued in pppdir/. Regarding the commands
maildirsmtp ~alias/pppdir alias-ppp- 1.2.3.4 `hostname`
I would like to ask,
1. 1.2.3.4 MUST be the ISP mail server for doing relay, right?
can I use 127.0.0.1 to send mail directly?
Or a relay mail server must be used?
2. `hostname`? what does it means? is it needed for the command?
3. where should I put this script/command? so that It will be run
automatically when the connetion is up. Will it be safely stopped
automatically when there is no connection.
4. what will happen if the command is run when there is no dial-up
connection? will it do any harm? if not, then maybe I can put the
command in a cron job, right?
5. is there anything to do with serialmail if I would like to have
dial on demand function? i.e. whenever the pppdir has mails queued, it
will automatically dail-up and send.

Thanks and Regards,

KC
