CRM114 Does Not Want to be Trained

I recently upgraded from using a hand-compiled version of CRM114 (which was
relatively old) to the latest I'm aware of ("20070301-BlameBaltar (TRE
0.7.5 (LGPL))"). What I'm finding now is that quite often CRM114 is
finding itself unsure about a message and requests that I train it; but
when I attempt to train it (by forwarding myself that message with a 'command
<mypassword> spam'), it responds with "LEARN AS SPAM UNNECESSARY- ALREADY
CLASSIFIED CORRECTLY - NO ACTION TAKEN".
Unfortunately, it doesn't quite seem to learn, because I'm finding that the
same type of message about which it's unsure continues to be an unsure
message, and so spam that got through yesterday is getting through today.
What am I missing?
