   well, at least the patch makes the regex cache work properly and pointers 
   look consistent.
   So we can say that that hopely *also* fixed *this* bug.

    -1, nevertheless. But maybe -2.

   PS: Bill, pls don't forget the patch in the bitbucket :)

I saw like three versions of the patch go by, and I'm waiting
to see what things settle down to before I put the patch into
mainline.

So- if it's settled- what's the patch?  :)
