Sorry to hear about your troubles, depression is understandable. I did some snooping, assuming this is the program you're under: http://www.pha.phila.gov/housing/Housing_Choice/Housing_Choice_Voucher_Program.html They say you have to start with a one year lease, which presumably you have, so can they kick you out if you need temporary treatment? What does the lease say? Do you know if there's a waiting list for new apartments? The also say: HUD regulations for the voucher programs permit PHA to terminate assistance to participants if any household member or guest does not abide by the following family obligations during assisted tenancy: "Supply any information requested by PHA to verify that the family is living in the unit or information related to family absence from the unit.: "Promptly notify PHA in writing when the family is absent from the unit for an extended period of time in accordance with PHA policy." That would lead me to believe that if you informed them you were going for temporary treatment, they couldn't kick you out, depending on what their "PHA policy" is. It just plain does not make sense that they would kick a disabled person out of their apartment when they need treatment for the whole damn reason they're there in Section 8 housing. Do you have any lawyer friends or available free legal resources to help you get through the lease requirements and not lose your apt?
