Sure.  Something like --without-libungif?  I'll roll that into the next 
release.  I plan to add support for jpg and png as well.  Do you think 
these should be enabled/disabled separately?  Or maybe as a single 
option such as --without-images or --disable-images?

I like having them enabled by default if the libraries are present but 
can definitely understand that there are advantages to being able to 
prevent them from being used.
