I use ifile together with spamprobe to do exactly what the OP said.
It's not developed any more mostly because it's a very mature program -
it's been around much longer than the current crop of spam classifiers.
Ifile is not so effective for spam vs non-spam, because spam is not a
uniform set, but I get around 98% accuracy filtering my mail into 50
different mailboxes having split out spam first.
