Our solution has been to set up a second (uw) imapd on the same machine
as the 'normal' pop and imap server listening on a different ip and compiled
with different default locations for the mailboxes. INBOX gets all spam 
detected
for this user and there are good,spam,remove training boxes, which a 
background
script uses to train the user specific spamprobe database.
This way the user stays within his mail application for spam training 
and correction;
with thunderbird you can use extensions to easily move marked messages 
to the
training boxes; one could probably even write an extension to hide the 
server side
spamprobe setup behind thunderbirds builting spam system ...
