Note that I explicitly *don't* get the "connection drop" issue with incorrect syntax in the outgoing filter (although, I used to, and that's the original problem I was attempting to solve by adding that exception handler that you also did.) FYI, I am running python-2.3.4-13.1 under Linux Fedora Core 3 on 32-bit x86.
