Are you sure it's version 1.4.0?  How did you check?  If it is, you
need to upgrade badly.

This is not a SquirrelMail problem UNLESS the affected accounts have
ALL been logged into one at a time by the SAME person on the SAME
computer in the SAME browser WITHOUT logging out.  If that's the case,
see the Login Check plugin.

You ask "this started today" as if we are your service provider.  The
only person who knows what changed in your system today is you or your
system administrator.
