HI,
I got the same problem with 0.8.7 and with 0.8.8. 
The problem is gone, since I use the debug version from http://netztorte.de/sylpheed/claws/ two aditional file are needed. More information on http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=658485&group_id=53368&atid=470084
