Can't send mail on personal account

I've been wrangling with Sylpheed 8.2.10 and 8.2.11 Claws on Windows
(NT4, 2000 and XP Pro). I have not managed to send mail from one of my
accounts, though I can send from the other with no problem. This is
basically a show stopper, and it means I can't really use Claws as my
main MUA.
Here's the situation:
* I have three SMTP servers available:
1. my work one (work.com) - won't relay from outside address to
outside address
2. my home broadband one (home.com) - uses SSL for POP, don't
know about SMTP
3. another ISP I have an account with (isp.com) - supposedly open
* With *all* of these servers, I get "Error occurred while sending
message to ...". Looking at the protocol log, the message is
always either:
1. "Can't connect to SMTP server ..." or
2. "Error occurred while authenticating"
* I've tried work.com, which works perfectly with my work account,
but it fails ("Can't connect ...") from my home account. I'm
getting suspicious that since the POP and SMTP servers have
different usernames and passwords, Sylpheed is somehow not getting
that right. However, I would expect that to give me msg #2
("Error ... authenticating") instead of the other one.
* I can read mail from home.com, but can't figure out how to make it
work for SMTP. I've set both to use SSL, but I also tried SSL off
for SMTP. In fact, I've tried every permutation I could think of
for authentication method, SSL, etc. Nothing works.
Anyone have any clues about this? I'd love to get this working, and use
Sylpheed-Claws for everything, but I'm stuck.
Thanks!
