Thanks, Rob.  Maildir format has been suggested before.  I'd prefer
not to go that route unless it's absolutely necessary.  I use a
variety of email tools, all of which are based around the MH format.

Anyway, since mutt claims to support MH format, it seems it should
have some way of detecting new messages.
