You can access the list via NNTP as well:
server: news.gmane.org
group: gmane.mail.sylpheed.claws.windows
(enter *sylpheed* in the subscribe window to see the other lists).

It gets the postings with a 5 minute delay and I didn't notice
any misses or other problems since I started using it (~6 months).

Delete on server has to be invoked via Selective DL. The messages will
be marked for deletion by your rules, but there is no deletion without
using Selective DL.
