I know that it _shouldn't_ be, but do you have a pid file in
/var/amavisd?

I used to know what signal 11 was, but don't remember.

However, this sounds as if you don't have anything "answering the phone"
on cagedlion.

Do you have an MTA and Dovecot or equivalent installed and running?
