Not sure, but after some googling, wddx is a pear module with functions for serializing strings? According to: https://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.wddx.php if maia still needs the functionality, the function could just be added to the maia PHP files with some sample code to eliminate the dependency on the actual php-pear wddx code.
