bbdb v2 is on melpa? Maybe you are already running v3?

Anyways, I use bbdb v3 for a long time, if there are special pitfalls,
I forgot about them, sorry. But backup your database _before_ updating
to v3. Otherwise you might have trouble to go back. And make sure all
your 'applications' want to talk to bbdb v3.

Then you can install bbdb v3 from melpa. If you use certain bbdb
functions, the Emacs wiki has a page listing the functions with their
old/new names.

Sorry, that is not a recipe I guess. But if you really, really want to
try bbdb v3, backup your database, install the package from melpa and
see what happens ;). What lured me into bbdb v3 was the hint that
records will have unique identifiers. Well, they still don't have.
