Indeed, this would be a very nasty bug... but lets give the app the benefit of the doubt for now :) This is how it goes: - Based on the "leave messages on server", the app either open an IMAP folder in READ_ONLY or READ_WRITE mode (in SZServiceAgent.openFolder(), line 299). - If "leave messages on server" is false (e.g. delete the messages), the app will mark each message it iterates through for deletion (in SZServiceAgent.processFolder(), line 455). - Finally, the folder is "expunged" (in SZServiceAgent.processFolder(), line 463) http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/zoe/ZOE/Frameworks/SZMail/ SZServiceAgent.java?view=markup One way or another, all the behavior above is based on the "leave messages on server" flag. If for some reason(s), the user preferences are corrupted, the default behavior is to "leave messages on server" anyhow. I'm not quite sure how this could go wrong, but stranger things have happen :o) What IMAP server are you using? Does your server keeps some kind of logs which could help debug this? Alternatively, you can enable JavaMail debugging: Provider's debug.mail.session=true http://zoe.omara.ca/SystemConfiguration/ConfigurationEditor This will show all the protocol level transaction between ZOE and your server if you run the app in debug mode. > I am now trying to find a strategy for restoring my email > to the server. One relatively painless way would be to connect to ZOE's built-in POP3 server from your email client. You can then move all your messages back to your IMAP server. Let me know how it goes.
