 Well, it was religiously and politically motivated... not unlike some of the
massacres that occurred in Britiain between Catholics and Protestants (not just
Northern Ireland-but throughout the 1500's on, as different british Kings took
over and tried to institutionalize their preferred church).

point out how many massacres have been committed by muslims too?
 
  There was a political component to the attacks that we have seen.  Bin Laden
did not merely turn on us out of mere religious conviction.  It's just not as
clean as you are making it sound.
 
**and yet the attacks were still carried out in the name of Islam.  Nothing you
can do to marginalize this changes that.
